Do you want to hear how other companies are making their Audit Committee reporting and interactions fresh and impactful?  Are you interested in finding out what risks to consider when auditing a cost impacted organization? How about hearing some ideas on how your Internal Audit function can do more with less?  If so, please join us for the March training event.  The course will cover several topics including:

  • Risk Assessment and Audit Plan Development - including discussion of trends and best practices.  Pros and cons of different risk assessment approaches, including a fraud component and the concept of combined assurance.
  • Audit Committee (AC) Reporting and Communications - methods AC members think work, ways you can improve your reports to the AC and make your communication with the AC more impactful.
  • Doing more with less - current trends to help you get the most out of your internal audit function and ideas to maximize internal audit's impact on your organization; risks to consider when auditing an organization that is in cost reduction mode. 
  • Throughout this training session, you will hear about the latest trends in internal audit departments across the U.S. and hear some of the results from the PwC State of the Profession survey.  The session will include case studies and other activities to keep the session interactive and tactical, providing attendees with the information needed to apply this to their own department.

Speaker Bios:

Jason Pett, Partner, PwC Internal Audit Services, Baltimore, Maryland: Jason is a Partner in PwC's IAS practice, the IAS East Regional Leader, and has been delivering External Audit and Internal Audit services for over 13 years. Jason has extensive experience providing enterprise wide risk assessments to organizations in a variety of industries and translating the results of those assessments into efficient, risk based internal audit plans. He has assisted organizations in the design of start-up internal audit functions as well as working with companies to transform existing internal audit functions into value-added, risk based and strategically aligned functions. Jason has managed both outsourced and co-sourced internal audit engagements for a variety of companies, ranging from managing small project based internal audit functions all the way up to functions for globally diversified Fortune 500 companies.  Jason is one of PwC's Sarbanes-Oxley experts and has assisted multiple companies in executing and maintaining an efficient SOX compliance effort.  He has worked with public companies and pre-IPO companies in preparing and executing integrated internal audit and SOX compliance plans.  Jason is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland, received his BBA from the University of Notre Dame and his MBA from Loyola College.

Karen B. Albert, Director, PwC Internal Audit Services, Baltimore, Maryland: Karen is a director in PwC's Internal Audit Services practice in Baltimore with more than 10 years of internal audit and risk management experience.  She has been delivering Internal Audit services to PwC clients in the several industries for six years.  Prior to joining PwC, Karen spent four years in internal audit at one of the largest Baltimore based financial services institutions.  She has experience managing outsourced and co-sourced internal audit functions at a variety of companies.  She has led enterprise-wide, fraud and internal audit risk assessments at her clients. She has managed and performed internal audit projects to assess internal controls and has developed audit programs for a variety of specialized industry and functional areas.  In addition, she has completed audit work related to SAS 70 reports and assisted with the Sarbanes-Oxley implementation at her prior employer and at PwC clients.  Prior to entering the field of internal audit, she had several years of experience as a management consultant and project manager.  Karen holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology from the California State University Bakersfield and a Masters degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland College Park. She is a Certified Internal Auditor.   She sits on the Boards of two non-profit organizations and is a member of the Board of Governor's for the Institute of Internal Auditors Baltimore Chapter.

Brian Scheinberg Director, Internal Audit Services Baltimore, Maryland: Brian is a Director in PwC's IAS practice and has been delivering External Audit and Internal Audit services for over 12 years. Brian has assisted clients in creating and enhancing effective internal audit functions, including the development, enhancement and execution of enterprise risk assessments and internal audit plans.  He has led engagements to assist clients with enterprise risk management, fraud risk management, and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory requirements. Prior to joining PwC, Brian worked in the accounting and finance fields and led assurance and due diligence engagements for clients in various industries.  Brian is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Business, with a concentration in Accounting, from Emory University.
